How Do They Compare to Panasonic LUTs?
If you have just purchased the Panasonic S1H or similar camera and are trying to find the best LUT option for V-Log, we got you covered. When you try and use the official LUTs from Panasonic, they can let you down when it comes to consistency in all environments and various skin tones. Those are more stylized than they are technical.
The most used Panasonic LUTs are the Nicest 709 and the VariCam V-Log to Rec709. However, the skin tones are way too red and pink and do not hold up well in the highlights either when it comes to maximizing the dynamic range in your image. We have also noticed that Nicest 709 only works in some situations but also saturates the blues too much and introduces an unpleasing result when filming different color of skin. That is why we created this LUT to help make grading and filming so much simpler.
We have worked on all the nuances of this conversion LUT to help you get the results you are wanting. That’s why you can see in this example that was filmed in Antelope Canyon in the USA, the environment is close to the skin tone colors. Since Panasonic’s LUTs lean too heavily towards red for skin tones, it throws off the entire image and doesn’t showcase your footage the way it was properly filmed.
In this pack, you will also get the .vlt file that can store this LUT in your camera for viewing in real-time using V-Log Assist. That way when you are filming, what you see in camera will give you consistent results when you use the conversion LUT when grading in post.
Nightclub Colors Fixed
When filming nightclub scenes or concerts, you might notice that the light shows can showcase intense blues and saturated various colors. Usually LUTs fall apart and don’t hold up well at all in those environments. You even will find some banding between colors as well as saturation clipping issues. Again, we have dialed all that in for a solid working base LUT.
Balanced Saturation in Greens/Yellows
With other conversion LUTs like the Panasonic Nicest 709, the greens and yellows are a little more harsh and so our LUT balances that out and gives you a great starting point. The Gamut V-Log Conversion LUT also elevates the exposure of the skin tone levels so you get a good contrast level throughout your image.
This LUT is optimized for ALL our gamut packs so you can get the foundational conversion LUT added before adding the other LUTs on top. We just recommend keeping the creative LUT’s dialed to 50% or less intensity for the best results.
Red Issue Fixed
Some people have noticed issues with certain red hues that are not converted well when using conversion LUTs from different companies as well as the official Panasonic LUTs. We have worked to dial that in for you so that when you film something red, it will look that color in post and won’t shift towards orange like most other LUTs do. You can trust that you will get a great looking image once you add our conversion LUT to your footage. (As long as you have dialed in proper exposure and fixed any potential white balance issues first 😉)
Go ahead and add this pack to your cart and start grading with confidence knowing your footage will be optimized for whatever you throw at it. We are here to help simplify your color grading process.
